Category:Super Sunday Celebration, Allentown, Pennsylvania

"Super Sunday" was an annual festival in the Downtown Shopping District" that started in 1975. Started as the "All-America Sunday", it was a giant block party to celebrate the naming of Allentown by the National Civic League to receive the All-America City Award. The award recognizes communities that leverage civic engagement, collaboration and innovation to successfully address local issues.

The celebration stretched the entire length of Hamilton Mall, from 10th Street to 5th Street. The five-block area was basically turned over to pedestrians, as the planners of Hamilton Mall designed it to be. The celebration included food vendors, rock bands, and displays by various artisans and crafts vendors. During the first event in September 1975, the highlight of "Super Sunday" was the presentation to the city of the "All America City" award and to kick off the official Allentown 1976 Bicentennial celebrations.

Super Sunday was held annually until 1999, when the Hamilton Mall in Allentown officially ceased to exist when the canopies along the sidewalks were dismantled.
