The TDK A, almost unknown in better places, was the company's cheap product for the underdeveloped countries, priced well below the TDK D. In late 1980s, when the D was already produced in a clear shell, the A was still packaged in an oldtimey all-black shell; eventually the A was produced in a clear shell too.
