Tape splicing means physically editing magnetic recordings - cutting the tape and connecting cut fragments together with adhesive tape or glue. A splicing block is a simple tool for aligning two tapes together; in the time of reel-to-reel recorders it was commonly bolted to the recorder itself. The practice became obsolete with digital editing, but remains in use for repairing damaged tape.
