English: The Tolai are the indigenous people of the Gazelle Peninsula and the Duke of York Islands of East New Britain in the New Guinea Islands region of Papua New Guinea. The majority of Tolais speak Kuanua as their first language (~100,000). The Tolais are divided into two moieties. Membership is determined by matrilineal descent.

Deutsch: Die Tolai sind ein indigenes Volk auf der Insel Neubritannien (New Britain, ehemals Neupommern) im Bismarck-Archipel von Papua-Neuguinea. Mit über 120.000 Angehörigen stellen sie mehr als die Hälfte der Bevölkerung der Gazelle-Halbinsel. Sie sprechen Kuanua, eine austronesische Sprache. Die Tolai bilden eine matrilineare Gesellschaft, die in zwei mütterseitige Erblinien unterteilt ist (Matri-Moieties).

Français : Les Tolai (prononcer « tolaï ») sont un peuple autochtone de la péninsule de Gazelle et des îles du Duc-d’York, en Nouvelle-Bretagne orientale (Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée). La majorité des Tolai parle kuanua (environ ~100 000 locuteurs).
