Vale Park was originally common land and by 1831 had become two estates, Liscard Vale and The Woodlands. Vale House was originally the residence associated with the Liscard Vale estate. A former MP for Liverpool, Samuel Smith, lived there in the 1860s. Both estates were bought by Wallasey Urban District Council in 1898 for £7,750. Vale House is now a cafe and community centre run by a local charity.
