William Gott, son of Benjamin Gott of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, was a 19th-century wool merchant and philanthropist, and he was the father of at least six children including William Ewart Gott (1827-1879). William Gott and his brother John Gott took over Armley Mills (a cloth-weaving factory) and Park Mill at Bean Ings (aka Bean Ings Mill), Leeds, from their father Benjamin Gott, in 1825. William Gott owned or rented various mansions during his lifetime, including Denison Hall and Wyther Hall near Leeds, and Bay Fort in Torquay. He donated the Leeds Irish Elk and the Leeds Tiger to the Leeds Philosophical Society in 1862.
