A Zombeck-Turm (Zombeck tower) ist a German standard design for air-raid shelters in the Second World War. Zombeck towers have a cylindrical shape with a deflector cone of massive ferro-concrete. The body of the tower is made of concrete with a red brick facade. The main volume of the interior is taken up by a helix shaped ramp facilitating rapid intake of people seeking shelter. These types of towers were predominantly built close to railway stations to take in passengers of trains stranded by an air-raid. A number of towers of this design are still in existence, most frequently in Hamburg.
