editThis category is assigned to some categories whose relation to the topic hydrothermal alteration is unclear to me. So how is
- weathering,
- geochemistry, and
- stratigraphy
related to hydrothermal alteration? Note that
- (chemical) weathering is the alteration of rocks under the influence of water at low temperatures, while hydrothermal alteration is always mediated by hot water.
- geochemistry should not be confused for rock chemistry. Geochemistry deals with isotopes and trace elements, rock chemistry is a subdiscipline of petrology (‘rock science’) and deals with the main element (O, Si, S, P, Cl, common metals) chemical composition of rocks.
- stratigraphy deals with the temporal succession of mainly sedimentary rocks. Sedimentary rocks can be affected by hydrothermal alteration but that doesn‘t connect hydrothermal alteration automaticly with stratigraphy. --Gretarsson (talk) 17:45, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
