Valparaiso station

Valparaiso, Indiana had three railway stations in town. They included:

1. Grand Trunk and Western Station on North Calumet,
2. Pennsylvania Railroad Station on South Campbell Street, and
3. Nickle Plate Railroad Station on Nickle Plate Avenue.

So, which is 'Valparaiso Station' supposed to be? I created two of the three categories, Category:Valparaiso station (Grand Trunk Western) and Category:Valparaiso station (Pennsylvania Station) to identify the differences and in preparation for additional pictures. The Nickle Plate Station has been moved, but is still around. Additionally, is split the Pennsylvania Station away from the Amtrak Station (Category:Valparaiso station (Amtrak Station)), as the actual Penn Station building was not used by Amtrak, only the track-age was the same.

I propose that we maintain these different categories, and either delete the generic Valparaiso station or use it to consolidate all of the 3-4 subcategories into one. --Chris Light (talk) 17:29, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

The PRR/Amtrak site is unquestionably the primary location - it lasted far longer than the others, and is by far the best-documented. The GTW station was only used until A-day (May 1, 1971); I don't believe the Nickel Plate station was used after the Nickel Plate Limited was discontinued in 1965. The PRR/Amtrak site has eight pictures on Commons; the GTW has 2, and the Nickel Plate none. Additionally, the enwiki article about the PRR/Amtrak site will unquestionably be "Valparaiso station" per enwiki policy, and it makes sense to transfer that here.

At this point, it doesn't really makes sense to try to separate the PRR and Amtrak station buildings. The Amtrak 'building' was just a shelter on the PRR platform, adjacent to the PRR building. Two of our four images of it also show the PRR building, and a third shows the PRR platform shelter. All of the images are from the Amtrak era anyway. So what benefit is there to two categories rather than one? Pi.1415926535 (talk) 04:28, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
