Chitalishte (Bulgarian: читалище [t͡ʃiˈtaliʃtɛ]) is a typical Bulgarian public cultural institution.

Such organisations (with their own buildings) have been established in the cities, towns and bigger villages of Bulgaria since 1856. Their main functions are to educate people, develop amateur art (visual and performance) and serve as a local community centre. They organise various clubs by interest, schools and courses: drama, music, dance, languages, etc. Usually the building have a library, a hall for performances and meetings and class rooms.
