Discussion

I just saw the discussion regard Lucasbfrbot below. I probably should have read that before i posted my request. Never the less i wasn't aware that a bot-flag wasn't nessescary to operate a bot on Commons, and since it will make less than 20 edits/month, i'm now not even sure that a bot flag is needed. For good meassures i won't delete this request though. --Hebster (talk) 19:08, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, we can just archive this request then, no harm done :). Patrícia msg 21:40, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, maybe we want to clarify the wording here. We want bot operators to come forward and tell us about what they plan. In some cases, (after discussion) it becomes clear that a flag is not needed, because we WANT to see the changes the bot makes in recent changes, or whatever... but in no case, even with only 20 edits a month, do we want bot operators to just start operating. The key information is in the request, which the community causes to be marked "approved" and which is then archived, and which appears in the archive of admin/bot requests .. showing it was a bot request and it was approved, whether flag granted or not. ++Lar: t/c 04:44, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
May i then suggest that you change this page from Request for flags to Bot introduction and make it mandatory for people who wants to run a bot on Commons that they introduce their bot. The introduction should more or less contain the same information as the current request-scheme (though i can think of i few other things like kill-switches and expected number of edits that would be nice) and then you can decide weither a bot should be granted bot-flag or not. By the way, Lar, just to be sure: Do you need anything regarding my request clarified? --Hebster (talk) 08:44, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your suggestions, indeed we should do some tweaking on this area. Lar can correct me, but I believe we don't need any further clarifications from you. Thanks, Patrícia msg 16:32, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I concur, we have all the info we need. I am thinking this is another request that we should close as "bot approved, no flag required at this time", and I propose to do so shortly unless someone has an issue with that. (so far I think no one has) Sounds a fun bot. ++Lar: t/c 19:15, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
