Well yes, the two things were posed together, however the tree is naturally somewhat chaotic. Trying to get a macro shot of two objects in this basic configuration in sharp focus is nearly impossible unless the objects are in the same plane perpendicular to the length of the lens. As a result, I had to place the cone relative to the needles to achieve the goal. It would have been trivial to take the cone and needles separate from each other.
