@Jessy Walters: I think it would be best if you could contact the uploader so we can resitich the image from the original pictures--ApolloWissen (talk) 21:02, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

Should be this image from 45cat. Also, the image should be transparent and without white background in inner and outer portions. --George Ho (talk) 10:09, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Smoothing requestedEdit

This image suffers from the crosshatching or chequerboarding pattern common to many scanned pages from hathitrust. I'm hoping somebody can perhaps smooth out the patterning a bit - preferably without losing detail on the ship. Also, the top corners have differently shaded curves residual from the original, it would be nice if these could be matched with the rest of the background. There is also a bit of whitespace in the bottom righthand corner. --Gatoclass (talk) 10:10, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Heh - we were both doing this at the same time... It's a tricky one, and I'm not thrilled with my result, but I'll link it in here anyway (alt version), as it's done. -- Begoon 07:57, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

Crop of File:Re-elect Culbert L Olson Governor 1942.jpgEdit

Article(s): Main infobox of en:Culbert Olson

Would it be possible to crop this image so that it only is the image of Olson himself. A non-free file was previously used in the article, but that was deleted per en:WP:NFCC#1 (en:WP:F7). There are other images in Category:Culbert L. Olson, but the election poster one seems to be the best image for a crop. --Marchjuly (talk) 01:15, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

Help clean up background of museum photoEdit

De-emphasize background, to make sphinx stand out better
As in many museum photos, BG is distracting. I'll leave it to the experts as to how to best make the subject "pop". Thanks! --Pete Tillman (talk) 23:19, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Here's an attempted crop, with the background blurred/faded/darkened. Is that the sort of thing you had in mind? -- Begoon 05:57, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
Looking at this again today, I also did a version with the background faded/darkened, but no blur - which I think I prefer. I can adjust the amount of fade/darkening independently, if desired. -- Begoon 05:04, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
  • Note (2): There's what looks like a "repair" on the far left where the "wing" is chipped and looks like it's mounted on a backboard of some sort. I put a version with it retouched out in the history of the second retouch file. It probably goes too far "creatively" in altering "reality" for us to use as a fair reproduction, but it's there if it's of any use... -- Begoon 12:54, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
  • Note (3): I cleaned 1st version of @Begoon: PawełMM (talk) 16:16, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, that's ok (there's a bit of a white 'halo' in places) - I didn't like my blurred one much, really. But don't you think by the time you take that much out it may as well just be a completely plain background? The dark patch of shadow in the top-middle being just about all that's really noticeably left looks a little bit odd to me. -- Begoon 17:53, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
Anyway, since it's probably easier for me because my photoshop file already has the masks, I uploaded "retouch (4)" with plain solid background as another option. Background colour could easily be changed to anything at all, I just "averaged" the original. -- Begoon 01:52, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

I'm going to go with #2 , blurred/faded/darkened, as it gives the "feel" of being in the museum, taking the photo with a long lens. Thanks for making the extra effort and offering all these options! Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 20:50, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
