Maximum filie size /optimum image processingEdit

Using Photoshop CS2, I combined three large JP2 compressed images into a single image suitable for uploading on Commons. The combined PNG image is 16224px x 7651px and more than 125MB. I reduced the size to 8000px x 3775px and 32MB and when I uploaded it got an error message that it was could not be displayed because it was more than 12.5 million pixels (if I recall the number correctly). Can you recommend the best method to combine images 1, 2, and 3 from the page below?

Thanks for any help you can offer. -- btphelps (talk) (contribs) 17:43, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Why not just upload as JPEG? 8000px x 3775px multiplies to 30,200,000 which is over twice the 12,500,000 limit, while the limits on JPEG are much larger... AnonMoos (talk) 17:54, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Old sepiaEdit

What would be the correct way to process heavily sepia-tinted scans of 130-year-old photographs? Someone else digitized the whole set (example - 12 megs pdf), but (IMO) the amount of tint is excessive. Options (all pics ultimately from the same digital source):

What would you pick? NVO (talk) 18:03, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

If you have only a JPEG source available, the safest way to greyscale (guaranteed to do the least damage) is to use the "greyscale" option of the IJG utilities. If you have a lossless TIFF etc. source, then whatever looks best, I guess... AnonMoos (talk) 19:20, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
By the way, not sure if it shows real sepia toning or just obnoxious paper yellowing with age (or both)... You can also ask at Commons:Graphic_Lab/Photography_workshop. -- AnonMoos. (talk) 02:36, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
Personally I find "De-saturated to 20% of tint (GIMP scale, FWIW)" to be the most beautiful tone, but the one that does the less damage to the original image would be the best, indeed.--- Darwin Ahoy! 03:31, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi, does anyone know what's happening to File:Spain.Girona.Escut.Timbrat.svg? there seems to be some kind of error which I can't fix. This image is widely used in catalan wikipedia so it would be nice if you could help me. Thank you. --Arnaugir (talk) 14:39, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

resaved in inkscape with "plain svg" setting. See Commons:Village_pump#two_recent_svg_issues._Cache_problems.3F_New_malicious_files_filter.3F. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 19:08, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

another SVG test caseEdit

Same error with a smaller file: -- 12:37, 20 February 2011 User:Domen

Removed ampersand entities """. Note that running a file through both Adobe Illustrator and InkScape, as this one was, can often be somewhat problematic... AnonMoos (talk) 20:42, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
