Looking for good tools for cleaning up SVG edit

Many SVG editors add a lot of information on the header of SVG files. Do you know any good tool for making SVG cleaner? I want to reduce SVG files' size then upload them. --百楽兎 (talk) 11:37, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do it by hand in a text editor. No idea on automated tools... AnonMoos (talk) 13:45, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with SVG mask? edit

Hi all, I recently have a problem about rendering an SVG correctly. The file File:BSicon_tSTR2.svg has a mask within it, and the desired outcome is a pair of parallel dashed line following the cubic bezier curve. I was able to achieve that in IE9, Firefox and Chrome, but not on the Commons or the SVG check. Can anyone spot the problem? Or is there other ways to achieve the same effect? Thanks in advance Peterwhy (talk) 19:23, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Replied on Wikipedia:SVG Help. Regards, -- Orionisttalk 10:54, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I have read that. Thank you anyway Peterwhy (talk) 15:39, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

SVG generated by matplotlib not rendering edit

Last night, I uploaded an svg (File:BSD data plot for elliptic curve 800h1.svg) that I created using Sage (which uses matplotlib). It appears that this svg won't render as a png: no thumbnail is showing up on the file page, or when you try to add the image to a wikipedia article, and when you click on "PNG in other sizes" the error message "Error creating thumbnail: GLib-ERROR **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.16.6/glib/gmem.c:136: failed to allocate 568 bytes aborting..." is returned. Now, since I read that wikipedia uses rsvg to create these renderings I went ahead and used rsvg (version 2.26.0) to convert the image to png and it worked (I, in fact, uploaded the result to File:BSD data plot for elliptic curve 800h1.png). What's going wrong? Thanks. RobHar (talk) 21:53, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, your svg has 18 MB - which is very, very much for a svg file. That much that I cannot open it with inkscape. I guess this could even be the reason why it is not working - consumes too much render time. I do not know what to do here. But I am sure others here will. :) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 23:56, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's a plot of 100000 data points so it just has 100000 times approximately the same thing and that adds up. I can save about 7 MB simply by renaming 2 ids. I'll see what else I can do to trim down the size. RobHar (talk) 00:04, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I removed some redundant stuff and got the file down to 5.3 MB and now it works! Is this normal behaviour for wiki's rsvg? RobHar (talk) 00:46, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

SVG/PNG rendering mismatch edit

Tunisia appears to be green on File:French country name genders.svg, yet when I click on the image it becomes purple. It should be purple, can it be fixed ?--Zolo (talk) 08:56, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

".tn" was in both the masculine and feminine style sections at the top of the page; I removed it from the masculine section (but there appear to be some problems with generating thumbnails right now...) -- AnonMoos (talk) 16:34, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks (it works now).--Zolo (talk) 20:12, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
