The general election to the Parliament of Sweden (Riksdag) is held very four years. The one leading up to this cooperation was held in September 2010.

In August 2010, Lennart Guldbrandsson, chairman of Wikimedia Sverige, contacted the political parties of Sweden to ask them about pictures of their candidates to illustrate the Wikipedia articles. Some of them already released their pictures under a free license, on Flickr or even on Wikimedia Commons, but most did not specify any licensing terms.
The Left Party (
Vänsterpartiet
) sent Wikimedia Sverige high-resolution photographs of their candidates, so they could upload them on Wikimedia Commons. The files were uploaded on 25 August 2010.
