Wiki Loves Africa 2024 in Kenya

Wiki Loves Africa 2024 - March 1st to April 30th, 2024
Take photos of Kenya's Africa Creates to win exciting prizes!

Wiki Loves Africa is an annual contest where anyone across Africa can contribute media that relates to that year's theme to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. Wiki Loves Africa encourages participants to contribute media (photographs, video and audio) that illustrate the specific theme for that year. Each year the theme changes. Each year's theme is chosen by the community to be a universal, visually rich, and culturally-specific topic (for example, markets, rites of passage, festivals, public art, cuisine, natural history, urbanity, daily life, notable persons, etc).

You are encouraged to submit any photos of Africa Creates in Kenya between 1st March to 30 April 2024. By submitting your photos to the competition, you share images of Africa Creates themes in Kenya with the world through Wikimedia Commons.

Who Can Participate

Are you in Kenya? Find and take photos, videos (time lapses, etc), and Audio (sound) of anything related to Africa Create an artistic way and upload it to Wikimedia Commons.

Instructions On How To Participate

The theme Africa Creates, celebrates the creation, manufacture, and/or production of items, objects, commodities, and products by Africans across the continent. As a theme, Africa Creates encompasses the creation of art in all forms: craft, fashion, film, dance, literature, textile design and fabrication, beverages, or street or restaurant food, using traditional methods or modern processes of manufacture. It could also document the creation, manufacture, or processing of items for sale or production in factories at an industrial scale, such as food processing, beverage production, manufacture of ceramics, clothes, and household items, and industrial manufacture, for example, smelting works, industrial engineering, or glass production.

'Africa Creates' is interested in the process of creation rather than the final product and aims to celebrate and capture human ingenuity as it happens. The focus of the photographer, filmmaker, or audiophile should be on capturing the process of creation or manufacture, not on the final product itself. If the final product is featured, please do not make it the central focus of the image.

The highlight of winning submissions will be focused on media that depicts the process (of creation or manufacture) and not on the finished work itself.

Below are just some ideas to explore around the theme concept....
