What is Wiki Loves Folk? edit

Wiki Loves Folk is a public photo competition in which readers and contributors of Wikipedia are asked to take pictures of festival and to upload them to Wikimedia Commons. The contest was first organized by Wikimedia Spain in 2016 and Amical Wikimedia joined the contest in the 2017 edition. Wiki Loves Folk has collected more than 4,100 photos of 149 festivals over the past two years that can be used on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. In the two first editions, 116 contributors participated, 63 of which were new.

What is the scope of this project? edit

The photo competition focuses on traditions or festivals (religious celebrations, carnivals, folklore festivals, food festivals, etc.). Photographers, hobbyists and enthousiasts are invited to submit photos that are on the lists available through Wikipedia. The organizers are responsible for finding the most suitable type of festivals. Images can only be submitted of festivals in 'participating countries'.

Who's behind it? edit

The contest is organized by the members of the local Wikimedia community with the help from local Wikimedia affiliates.

Can I upload pictures from more than one country? edit

Yes! You are free to upload as many pictures as you want, from as many countries as you want — as long as they participate in the contest this year.
