Any discussions? edit

This system is pretty cool, but I'm wondering who decided to use it for the Commons and formalize it on this page. The history isn't too helpful... were there any discussions on adopting this system? ~MDD4696 03:51, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

iwant to know about character recognition for any language. I am from mayamar. the preceding unsigned comment is by 203.81.161.145 (talk • contribs) 15:22, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah I'd like to know as well. For now, I've added {{Proposed}} to the top of the page as I don't think this is official policy. -Fadookie 01:03, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely this is not policy and all administrators I know would resist very strongly any attempt to introduce it. See commons:Categories for how files should be classified. --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 06:19, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

How do you...? edit

Add something to Image_classification_02/01. There's no subcategories, and Template:ICS requires 3 numbers? --H2g2bob 18:57, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Um... edit

Is this a proposal to replace the existing category system? pfctdayelise (translate?) 08:07, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I hope not, these categories read very awkwardly. One subcategory labelled Children wearing folk, historical, farm, Indian or cowboy costumes? Totally ethnocentric. Perhaps this system by the US Patent Office is useful in some way that I can't grasp inside its jurisdiction, but certainly not in an international environment without major changes. There are other systems out there, and certainly the Commons community can come up with something better. As a final remark, no such system may be proposed without giving historical reasons for it; how and why did this system arise? For instance, why would someone bundle Fans, canes, umbrellas in the same category? What association can be made between a (human-powered) fan and a cane? By which ethnic group, of which nationality, and at which date? My guess would be caucasian citizens of the USA, around 1890-1920; not terribly representative of the world as of 2006, IMHO. (That said, a well-structured categorisation system might be helpful.) – Tintazul talk 11:03, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't work edit

Sorry but this system will never work in Commons. An obfuscated code numbering scheme is not the way to go. Please do not invest more of your higly valuable time in it previous to sitting back and trying to understand random persons that see this for the first time. For the time being please do not link this draft in important pages. I just want to avoid further frustration that will definitely come up. Better now than later.
