Organisation edit

Bonjour,

Hello,

I'm new to the organization of such an event, and even a little overwhelmed with all projects of Quebec Committee and the Board of Wikimedia Canada... so if you have a little time to devote to the organization, feel free to contribute to the pages of "Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 Canada"!

Promotion edit

The Montreal Gazette video about Wikipedia Takes Montreal.

I've encouraged editors at en.wp to join us, by leaving a note at en:Wikipedia talk:Canadian Wikipedians' notice board#Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 Canada, and have left notes on the talk pages of a few contributors that might be interested. Any other suggestions for increasing the number of participants? --Skeezix1000 (talk) 22:39, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

No big ideas, but you should invite en:user:InverseHypercube, who is active here and on en, and likes image work. The Interior (talk) 22:43, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Great suggestion. If anyone else knows other contributors that should be invited, please do so/mention it here. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 23:13, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
One thing I did for WTMTL was an official lauch with a press release. Result: 294 inscriptions, 112 showed up, even with the hurricane Irene who was not invited! Maybe we should prepare this? Anyone good in English willing to prepare a press file, I'll put it in PDF and lauch the event after "Wikipedia Takes QC" on June 16th. What do you guys think? We also bought the domain http://WikiLovesMonuments.ca, and sooner than later, I'll prepare something like http://www.wikilovesmonuments.eu/ ... Let me know what is best... Well, you brought me in, though it looks like the NHSes in the immediate vicinity of Calgary have images. Shame I don't travel much anymore. If this was about 5 years ago, I could probably have gotten every missing pic in Alberta myself... Resolute (talk) 23:05, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Also, for bringing more participants in, perhaps create a userbox (probably, here, at EN and FR) that editors can put on their userpages? Resolute (talk) 23:10, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Benoit, both your suggestions are fantastic. I was more thinking in terms of getting more people involved in the earlier organizational stages, but as always you are thinking two to three steps ahead of me. Resolute, grab your car keys and get going! Joking aside, the infobox idea is a good one. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 12:52, 2 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
The other suggestion is to see if we can get some support from Parks Canada and/or the CRHP. If nothing else, CRHP has an active Facebook presence, and they might be willing to post a notice about the event on their Facebook feed in the summer. We should also consider our own Facebook/Twitter accounts, if only to better communicate with people registered.--Skeezix1000 (talk) 12:56, 2 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
I strongly agree with the last comment, having our own domain for the event is great, but a Facebook page can do miracles nowadays. Amqui (talk) 11:34, 3 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

August edit

Sorry I am so slow to pick up on these things, but it just occurred to me that it is August (already! where is my summer going?) and less than a month before this event commences! I see Benoit has produced a beautiful official site. What else needs to be done. I can think of various things, but I do not want to step on anyone's toes. Has the scope of the event changed? --Skeezix1000 (talk) 17:21, 6 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I anwered by email couple days ago... Benoit Rochon (talk) 21:53, 8 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
