List of 2015 WLM Participating countries edit

Where can such a list be found? So far I have come across the 2014 list of Participating countries. Any help/direction on this would be greatly appreciated :) Kalliope (WMF) (talk) 11:39, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

At the bottom of this main page is a banner listing the countries and a link to the current list at: Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2015/Participating countries or just change the 14 to 15 in the title. Ww2censor (talk) 12:29, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for the guidance, much appreciated. Would you happen to know what the best place would be for a discussion about the WLM banners? Do you think this best done through each participating country's discussion page, or through each country's mailing list (whenever this is available)? The best would talking directly to me. Romaine (talk) 11:58, 5 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Armenia & Nagorno-Karabakh edit

Hi Romaine and all others who involved in WLM 2015. I understand the role of such projects in cross-wiki cooperation and in uniting participants around one goal, I also with the help of our user group members stimulate Azerbaijani users to take part in WLM and WLE. But sometimes users let us their displeasure about projects with politicized elements against Azerbaijan, and also such moments are used by some people in Azerbaijani society to blame Wikipedia and wiki-projects in being anti-Azerbaijani and pro-Armenian. All this because of the ongoing Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between this two countries. Some users cause problems to us or make some vandal edits in related pages. In the case of WLM they want to know why Nagorno-Karabakh's name shown together with Armenia and why Armenian users allowed to use Wikimedia projects for promotion of separatist movement in Nagorno-Karabakh. As you can see nor Ukrainian, not Russian participants use Crimea, Donetsk People's Republic or Luhansk People's Republic names alongside of their country project names and for sure no one here in Commons or in any other wiki-project will allow them to do it. So I want organizers of WLM 2015 to be more sensitive on this issue and to exclude Nagorno-Karabakh's name from the name of Armenian WLM project. It is not compulsory to state Nagorno-Karabakh in the project's name. Please, tag persons who are decision makers on this issue as they also can express their views. Thank you for understanding. Cheers.--Wertuose (talk) 13:27, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately Russian organizers have decided to add Crimea to their lists of monuments, see Культурное наследие России. --Papuass (talk) 14:44, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Politics, that is a subject I like to keep out of the wiki and of Wiki Loves Monuments. Sadly the world is not easily divided in countries everybody agrees on. It especially is the case with areas that are disputed, many of them exist in the world, and that are regions in the world where it is usually more difficult to get photos of. Having certain monuments listed on two lists enlarges the possibility of getting photos from it, and that is our goal in the end. I also think it is up to the uploader to decide whether a photo participates in which contest, to make sure someone does want to donate his/her images to Wikipedia, as that is the most important.
What would happen if the team of Wiki Loves Monuments in the Netherlands would add a piece of Germany to the contest in the Netherlands? Would the Germans make a big deal of this? I do not think so. They think it is strange, but at the same time they think that if this really would be working, also they would benefit from it as more images become available which otherwise wouldn't have come available. Listing monuments from another country/area does not say anything political about this area, it does not say anything about who is in control of this area, does not say anything about who is the rightfull owner of this area, it only says that a team of Wiki Loves Monuments cares about a group of monuments that may or may not belong to the core country, but that these monuments should be listed on Wikipedia with a photo.
Please do not add politics in Wiki Loves Monuments, the only goal is to get photos of monuments on Wikipedia. Please let us not forget that. (Also: Wikipedia exists to collect knowledge, not to take a political position other than that every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge (vision).) Romaine (talk) 17:38, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Romaine, "Do not add politics in Wiki Loves Monuments" — this is exactly what I and all that users who protest, want to say. But you had to say it to WLM Armenia organizers at the moment. Because they added politics to WLM already by adding the name of separatist region of another country to their project name. You mentioned Netherlands and Germany, but you don't take into account that Germany don't have separatist movement inside supported by Netherlands and we don't know what would happen if there was such problem. We don't protest or make a big deal about adding photos of monuments from Nagorno-Karabakh to Commons. The only problem here is the name of the project. This is the first and the main thing what people see when they open the list of participating countries. So please kindly pay attention to this issue and ask related persons to make a measured decision on it. Thanks.--Wertuose (talk) 05:55, 15 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi Romaine. I hope you are trying to resolve this problem, as it is really very annoying to explain to everyone every year the same things. You said that you are against politics in wiki-projects, then I believe that you understand that not we bringing politics to WLM by asking to delete the name of "Nagorno-Karabakh" from the project name. It was brought when this name was written there. If you are familiar with this conflict, then you have to understand it.
P.S. And please change the word "şəkilini" to "şəklini" in Azerbaijani Central notice because of orthographic mistake. Thanks.--Wertuose (talk) 19:03, 19 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Request for extension of deadline in Kosovo edit

Hi, I'm helping organize Kosovo competition. We got the project funds from the ministry two weeks into the competition. We have planned several interesting activities such as guided tours for photographers, endangered monuments (quite a problem here) tour, monument photography master class and physical outreach in the regions. Problem is that next week is a long holiday here which doesn't give us much time to make this happen. Would it be OK if we extend our competition to 10 October? Thank you! --Arianit (talk) 09:13, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Got an answer. Nevermind. --Arianit (talk) 12:32, 19 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
