(34.29 cm x 22.86 cm) Publisher: Koshimuraya Heisuke Credit Line: Bequest of Mrs. Cora Timken Burnett Label Copy: "In the one print from this series that is not a famous view from one of Japans sixty-eight provinces, Hiroshige depicts one scene from the metropolis of Edo, where he resided. Edo was the cosmopolitan center of Japan and the seat of the military ruler, the Shogun, and his feudal lords from 1600 until 1868. To represent Edo, Hiroshige chose the year-end festival at the Buddhist Asakusa Kannon Temple. In this bustling nighttime scene, crowds of people visit the booths and stalls. Hiroshige would be buried at Asakusa after his death in 1858."
