English: Poster released in 1974 by Salario per il lavoro domestico (Wages for Housework) groups in Florence and Padua to protest violence against women seeking abortions and the fascist era laws banning the procedure. The text reads roughly: “In Florence 40 women were dragged into police headquarters on suspicion of having had abortions. In the Trevenito region 263 women have been imprisoned for abortion. If we want children, society does not help us to produce and raise them, if we do not want them we are treated as murderers… The laws against abortion have been broken by millions of women. We do not ask only for abortion. We have always had abortions alone, risking jail or death and suffering violence. We want to choose whether, how and when to become mothers. We no longer want our body to be a tool for the production of children. We want to learn how to consecrate and determine our own being. No longer alone, but together, we struggle to win this freedom to decide. No to the ban on abortion and the punitive laws of the “Rocco Code.” (The fascist era law prohibiting abortion) Free abortion on demand! Sunday, January 12th, demonstration at 3:30 in Piazza Santa Croce."
