Description
English: Spirit of Womanhood, a 1962 work of Buffalo-based sculptor Larry Griffis, stands alongside the Scajaquada Expressway at Delaware Park in Buffalo, New York, as seen on a November 2022 afternoon. Sculpted in cold-rolled steel as is typical of Griffis' work, this elongated figure of a nude woman holds a six-foot-diameter hoop - symbolic of the world, eternity, and the cycle of life - triumphantly over her head. According to the inscription on the base, the statue was commissioned by James G. Forsyth in honor of Marian de Forest, founder of Zonta International.
