| Description |
English: "The Spitfire" just outside Faversham Station Viewed from the lane that runs alongside the track eastwards from the station. The locomotive is Southern Railway express passenger locomotive 34067 "Tangmere", built in 1947, and is the only one of the "Battle of Britain" Class currently certified to run on the main line. It was named after the wartime RAF fighter station near Chichester but was mainly used on trains between London and Kent until the 1960s. When the picture was taken it was about to be joined to carriages in the station to begin a return trip to the Isle of Sheppey as part of Faversham Hop Festival celebrations. |
