Description |
English: "Zander Type B-11 Adjustable Weight Foot Treadle Unit" resembles an old-fashioned treadle sewing machine without a top. All iron portions are enameled black with gilt trim. An iron bar extends the length of the top with an ornate fly wheel on one side and a lever and handle on the other. The lever attaches to the treadle portion of the machine, which has leather U-shaped leg rests screwed into it. A flat metal bar attached to the treadle unit on the opposite side from the level has an adjustable weight on the end of it. A wheelchair user placed his legs into the cushioned leg rests and places his feet on the movable bar of the treadle, where they are secured with a leather strap. Setting the fly wheel in motion by hand, the user variously extends and flexes his feet by either pulling the frame towards himself or pushing it away. No motor is necessary. |
