De Sint-Nicolaaskapel ook wel Valkhofkapel in Nijmegen is een kapel gebouwd rond 1030 op het Valkhof, een heuvel in het centrum van Nijmegen die al in gebruik was door de Bataven rond het begin van onze jaartelling. Karel de Grote liet op deze heuvel in de 8e eeuw een palts bouwen, die in de eeuwen daarna werd uitgebreid. In 1030 werd waarschijnlijk door keizer Koenraad II de opdracht gegeven om de kapel te bouwen, gebruik makend van de resten van de paleiskapel van Karel de Grote. Bron: Wikipedia. |
