Description
English: 1945’te, dönemin İstanbul Valisi Lütfi Kırdar’ın talebi üzerine, Paul Bonatz ve Kemali Söylemezoğlu tarafından İstanbul Belediye Sarayı projesi hazırlandı. Şehzadebaşı yakınlarında yapılması öngörülen binanın avan projesi, çevre düzenlemesi eşliğinde Kırdar’a sunuldu. Projeyi değerlendirmek üzere görevlendirilen komitede Sedad Hakkı Eldem, Arif Hikmet Holtay, Makbul Gökdoğan, Emin Onat ile Gustav Ölsner yer aldı. Komite tarafından onaylanan ancak mevcut finansal sorunlar nedeniyle valiliğin satın almadığı proje gerçekleştirilmedi. Aşağıdaki yazı, bu komitenin projeye ilişkin 7 Şubat 1948 tarihli değerlendirme raporundan alıntıdır.

“Böyle bir çalışmanın mevcudiyeti hem şehir için önemli bir kazanım, hem de gelecekteki muhtelif çalışmalar ve açılacak yarışmalar için önemli bir örnektir. Projenin varlığı uygulama aşaması için gerekli hazırlıkları kolaylaştıracak ve gereksiz harcamaları engelleyecektir. Uluslararası arenada iyi tanınan mimar Paul Bonatz’ın imzası ise projenin değerini daha da artıracaktır.”
