Ελληνικά: Η λίμνη Βόλβη, βρίσκεται στον Νομό Θεσσαλονίκης ανατολικά από την πόλη της Θεσσαλονίκης σε απόσταση 35 χλμ. και 8 χλμ. δυτικά από την θάλασσα του Στρυμονικού κόλπου, στη λεκάνη της Μυγδονίας, στον Δήμο Βόλβης. Αποτελεί τη δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη λίμνη της Ελλάδας και είναι διατεταγμένη σε σειρά με την λίμνη Κορώνεια σε απόσταση 11,5 χλμ. από αυτήν. Μαζί οι δυο λίμνες σύμφωνα με τη συνθήκη Ραμσάρ αποτελούν υγρότοπο διεθνούς σημασίας με την ονομασία «Λίμνες Κορώνεια - Βόλβη». Από τη βόρεια πλευρά της διέρχεται η Εγνατία οδός (ενώ η παλιά εθνική οδός διέτρεχε την νότια πλευρά της), και στα ανατολικά της ο Ρήχειος ποταμός, ο οποίος λειτουργεί και ως υπερχείληση της λίμνης δια μέσω των στενών της Ρεντίνας προς τον Στρυμωνικό κόλπο. Η λίμνη Βόλβη έχει σχήμα επίμηκες με διεύθυνση από ανατολή προς δύση ή και το αντίστροφο. Το μέσο μήκος της είναι 19,5 χλμ. και το μέσο πλάτος της 3,4 χλμ. Η επιφάνεια της λίμνης, για μέση στάθμη 37 μέτρα, έχει έκταση 70,8 τετ. χλμ. αντιστοιχώντας σε συνολικό μήκος οχθογραμμής 54,4 χλμ. Στοιχείο που την καθιστά τη μεγαλύτερη λίμνη της Μακεδονίας και τη δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη της Ελλάδας με μέγιστο βάθος 36-37 μέτρα.
English: Lake Volvi (Greek: Λίμνη Βόλβη, modern: Limni Vólvi) is located in the root of the Chalkidiki peninsula, in the Thessaloniki regional unit, Greece. Lake Volvi is the second largest lake in Greece. It is about 12 miles (19 km) in length, and 6 or 8 miles (9.7 or 12.9 km) wide. The area is 68 km² and the depth is 20 m. It is located east of Lake Koronia (Lake Lagkada).
The new Via Egnatia highway runs along the northern shore of the lake, while the ancient road ran along its southern one. On its east the narrow valley of Rentina, also known as the "Macedonian Tempe". The municipalities of Volvi and Langadas have a shore on the lake. |
