Русский: Док начали строить в 1719 году по указу Петра I. Работы велись долго и были непростыми - пришлось даже снести 140 домов. Сначала к ним были привлечены драгуны и крестьяне, затем канал строили тысячи «работных людей» из разных губерний. Использовался, в основном, ручной труд. За время строительства сменилось несколько распорядителей работ. Сменились и правители Российской империи.
После смерти Петра возведение сооружения шло медленно. Но с воцарением Елизаветы Петровны увеличилось поступление средств, и работы активизировались. Официальное открытие Док-канала произошло 27 июля 1752 года, в присутствии Елизаветы Петровны, которая сама привела в действие шлюзовые механизмы и пустила воду в канал. Мероприятие сопровождалось залпом 1331 орудия. Генерал-майор И. фон Люберас, который руководил на тот момент строительством, был награжден орденом Св. Андрея Первозванного.
