Перші згадки про село Пнікут у письмових джерелах датуються 1366 роком. Римо-католицьку парафію тут заснували не пізніше 1470-го. А 1611-го розпочали будівництво дерев’яного костелу. За розповідями старожилів, старий костел стояв колись через дорогу навпроти сучасного мурованого. На цьому місці сьогодні стоїть капличка. Новий храм постав у 1667 р. Ще один і теж дерев’яний звели 1762-го (освячений 1767-го). Упродовж 1908-1911 рр. у Пнікуті збудували мурований храм св. Миколая за проектом Максиміліана Яблонського.

   У 20-х роках XX ст. дерев’яний костел розібрали.

8 жовтня 1988 р. вперше після багатьох років у костелі вільно відслужили Святу Месу. 1989-го було відновлено парафію. У наступні роки здійснили ґрунтовну реконструкцію костелу.
