Українська: Крижень - вид птахів родини качкових (Anatidae) ряду гусеподібних (Anseriformes). Відоміший у широкому побуті як ди́ка ка́чка. Частково перелітний птах. Населяє прісні і злегка солонуваті водойми. В останні роки багато птахів зимують на незамерзних водоймах у великих містах та їхніми околицями. Крижень широко поширений у північній півкулі. Гніздиться як в арктичних широтах на північ до 70° с. ш., так і в теплому субтропічному кліматі на південь до 35° с. ш. в Північній Африці і до 20° с. ш. на Близькому Сході.
В Європі селиться майже повсюдно, за винятком високогірних районів в центральній частині, Скандинавії на північ від 70° с. ш. і смуги безлісої тундри росії. Гніздиться усією території України, крім високогір'їв, мігрує скрізь. Popularly known as a wild duck. Partially migratory bird. Inhabits fresh and slightly brackish water bodies. In recent years, many birds have been wintering on unfrozen reservoirs in large cities and their suburbs. Mallard is widespread in the northern hemisphere. It nests in arctic latitudes north to 70° north. N., as well as in the warm subtropical climate south to 35° N. sh. in North Africa and up to 20° s. sh. in the Middle East.
In Europe, it settles almost everywhere, with the exception of high-mountain areas in the central part of Scandinavia north of 70° N. sh. and strips of forestless tundra of Russia. It nests throughout the territory of Ukraine, except for the highlands, and migrates everywhere.
