Description

The genus name "Romulea" refers to the legendary founder of Rome, Romulus.The botanist Filippo Parlatore dedicate the Romulea linaresii to his close friend Italian journalist and writer Vincenzo Linarez in 1839. The cholera epidemic 1837 in Palermo gave the Linarez' inspiration for the novel Maria and Giorgio, it was also the biographer of famous Sicilian characters including the botany Antonino Bivona Bernardi and the physics Domenico Scina died during the epidemic. This plant is a herbaceous species geophytes bulbous 5-12 cm high. In Italy, a subspecies linaresii grows only in Sicily. Vulnerable habitat in Bulgaria, it grows only in several southern regions of Bulgaria.


Название рода "Ромулея" происходит от основателя Рима Ромула. Итальянский ботаник Филипп Парлаторе назвал Romulea linaresii в честь своего друга Винченцо Линареса, итальянского журналиста и писателя, в 1839 г. Эпидемия холеры 1837 года в Палермо дала Линаресу вдохновение для романа о Марии и Джорджо, он был также биографом известных сицилийских персон, включая ботаника Антонино Бивона Бернарди и физика Доменико Сцина, оба они умерли во время эпидемии.
