Description
Русский: В этом доме с 1838 года помещались штаб корпуса жандармов и, по определению А. И. Герцена, «Главная шпионская контора» - Ш отделение собственной его императорского велячества канцелярии, созданное в 1826 году во главе с А. Х. Бенкендорфом.До того здание сменило немало владельцев. Граф Остерман в конце ХVIII века построил здесь для себя богатый особняк, в 1796 году продал его (эа 100 тысяч рублей) военно-сиротскому дому «для помещения воспитанниц отделения». Когда это отделение закрылось, новым владельцем стал князь А. Я. Лобанов-Ростовский. Он купил этот дом в 1816 году (уже за 225 тысяч рублей!). После того, как О. Монферран построил для князя «дом со львами» (рядом с Исаакиевским собором), Лобанов-Ростовский свой дом на Фонтанке продал графу В. В. Кочубею. А после смерти графа Кочубея правительство купило это здание для Третьего отделения.Здание перестраивалось в 1890-1892 годах и в 1900 г архитектором Марфельдом Р.Р.
