Description
English: Commonwealth of the common stinkhorn and the blue bottle fly The common stinkhorn (Phallus impudicus) is one of the most peculiar species of fungi whose spores ripen in the outer olive-colored gelatinous gleba of the head and, when spores are becoming mature, the fungus begins to smell carrion on which fly various blowflies (Calliphoridae). This case is regarded as a classic example of a mutually beneficial (symbiotic) tie: mushroom provides flies with liquid food and flies carry the spores of the fungus promoting colonization of new habitats. However, the documentary (photographic) proof is difficult to obtain because the common stinkhorn usually grows in shady poorly lightened parts of the forest, the use of additional light sources is difficult because it deters flies from the mushroom -the main subject. In the photograph, that was done in the year 2012 in the aspen of the Voronezhsky Reserve in poor light and without flash, is clearly visible in the common stinkhorn the blue bottle fly (Calliphora vicina) which is one of the main agents of the spread of the common stinkhorn in forest ecosystems of the Voronezhsky Reserve.
