В XIX веке это место называется – Черников переулок. Здесь жили состоятельные горожане. По имени одного из них, купца Черникова, семье которого принадлежало пять домов в этом районе, стал называться и переулок. Изначально дом № 8 принадлежал купеческой семье Ивана Черникова, затем его детям - Никите и Фёдору . Согласно описанию 1799 г. на принадлежавшем им участке находился каменный двухэтажный дом с мезонином, мастерской и складом. Во дворе дома были каменные постройки производственного назначения: двухэтажный флигель с мастерскими в обоих этажах, точильный сарай, сарай для литья колоколов, кузня, каланча, под которой вешали отлитые колокола. Колокола находили сбыт и за пределами Тулы.
