Հայերեն: Վանական համալիրը կառուցվել է վաղ միջնադարում՝ մի վայրում, որը նախաքրիստոնեական շրջանում եղել է որպես սրբատեղի։ Այդ աղբյուրներից մեկն այսօր էլ պահպանվում է վանքի գլխավոր գավթի ներսում։ Ըստ ավանդության, առաջին վանքը հիմնվել է 4-րդ դարի սկզբին, երբ Հայաստանում քրիստոնեությունը հռչակվել է պետական կրոն։
