Common name – Stinking swallowwort Tamil name - VELIPPARUTHTHI Usually found on fences ; As cotton from the pod flies away in air it is called Velipparuththi (‘fence paruththi’);Leaf and root of this creeper are used in medicines ; The twin –unripe fruit is interesting to look at ;To remove phlegm , to kill germs,to treat asthma ,to heal wounds , to contain cough, to cure insect bites , this plant is a traditional medicine in Tamilnadu . தமிழ்: வேலிப்பருத்தியின் வேறு பெயர்கள்-: உத்தம கன்னிகை , உத்தாமணி. இதன் இரட்டைக் காய்கள் முற்றியதும் வெடித்துப் பஞ்சு பறக்கும் ! பஞ்சு , பளபளப்புடன் பட்டுப்போலக் காணப்படும் ! பஞ்சுடன் விதைகளும் சிதறும் ! இலையை ஒடித்தால் பால் வரும் ; புழுக்கொல்லி மருந்தான இக் கொடி , ஆஸ்த்மா, பாம்புக்கடி, வீக்கம், மாதவிலக்கின்போது ஏற்படும் வயிற்று வலி ,நகச்சுற்று,கீல் வாதம், முடக்கு வாதம் என்று பல நோய்களுக்கு மருந்தாகும்;இலைச் சாற்றைச் சுண்ணாம்புடன் கலந்து அடிபட்ட வீக்கங்களுக்குத் தடவுவர் .
