English: The author studied in Leuven, Paris and Padua, where he taught medicine and anatomy, then became doctor at the court of Holy Roman Emperor Charles Ⅴ （r. 1519－1556）. The Fabrica's first edition marks a revolution in the typographic history of medical editions: For the first time, anatomy and dissection of the human body are transformed into illustrated sciences.
