上華嚴寺 （大同）

大同の上華嚴寺は遼の清寧八年（西紀一〇六二）の建立、支那に現存する木造最古の建築の一例である。高い壇上に立つ大雄寶殿の莊重と輕快とを兼ね備へた古調は、唐代の面影を傳へたものであらう。これほどの名建築は比類少ないと思はれる。｜前方に立つ八角の鼓樓、鐘樓、牌樓に似た門、何れも淸朝の粗雜なものであるが、規模を小にして大雄殿を益々大きく見せた所は優れた計畫と言つてよい。（一九三〇年撮影）（印畵の複製を禁ず）
