Description
中文（繁體）：明治43年(1910年)日人藤澤靜象等人集資設立「埔里社製糖合資會社」，第二年復募股增資，擴大組織改稱為「埔里社製糖株式會社」，但是年因水災損失甚重，漸難支持，乃於大正2年(1913)7月併入「台灣製糖株式會社」稱為「埔里社製糖所」。大正9年(1920)10月後改稱「埔里製糖所」，戰後改制稱「埔里糖廠」，隸屬台灣糖業公司第二分公司。

民國39年，台糖分公司撤銷，改為總廠制，「埔里糖廠」改隸台中總廠。民國43年台糖公司原以交通不便,原料推廣困難，決定將埔里糖廠裁撤，幸好得到當年的省議員劉金約先生請命，台糖公司於是收回成命，將原本的埔里糖廠轉型，改為「埔里副產加工廠」，專做副食品(如健素糖)，而且改隸溪湖糖廠管轄，轄下埔里所有的糖鐵路線自此大多改為道路，埔里的鐵道文化自此走入歷史。曾經是日治時期埔里最大、最重要的製糖產業(電話是1番)，也從此繁華落盡。

圖為民國60年代的「台糖埔里副產加工處」大門，門柱仍是日本時期的樣式，門口剛好有一位女職員牽著一台鐵馬要外出，從其身高可對比門柱的高大與曾經顯要的過去。
