English: In the past, numerous baskets of snowy crude camphor and countless cans of camphor oil had been transported here from every mountainous camphor hut across Taiwan via railway, push cart and rickshaw. The factory had operated day and night with towering brick chimneys continuously emitting thick smoke. In each giant red-brick plant, hundreds of laborers and staff members operated precision mechanical equipment to produce refined camphor and a variety of oils as chemical engineering materials through a complicated refining process of fractionation and sublimation. These products were sold worldwide via official distribution and maarketing. Moreover, raw opium materials imported from India, Persia, China and Turkey were also gathered to this factory, the only opium manufacturing plant of Taiwan, for refinement.
