位於屏東縣立屏東公園田徑場西邊的阿猴城朝陽門古城，建於清道光16年（西元1836年），原先有東西南北四座城門，歷經歲月洗禮，城門逐漸毀傾，日據時代為了修築道路，拆除了大部分的城牆，僅剩下東門，即現今的「朝陽門」。
朝陽門城高3.6公尺，周圍27.5公尺，整座牆由紅磚搭配中型鵝卵石砌建而成，城門上右題款：「下淡水分沈長棻監造」，左題款：「道觀丙申年冬穀旦」。
1996年屏東舉辦區運，屏東公園縣立體育場興建環場看台，毗鄰體育場的朝陽門古蹟被看台暨周邊建物遮擋，古蹟「蒙塵」，經過民間社團大聲疾呼，屏東縣政府從善如流，於2012年10月中旬拆除朝陽門週邊看台，為古蹟前方步道清理出景深腹地，朝陽門終於重見天日！
