Description
中文（臺灣）：砲台山海拔約200至300公尺，位於蘇花公路(台九線)起點旁，從砲台山向東遠眺，蘇澳港灣，盡收眼底；往西俯瞰，蘇澳街衢，一目了然，其優越的地理位置為實鎮守海口的軍事要地。1884(光緒10)年，中法戰起，法軍侵佔基隆，法艦封鎖全台，當時駐防蘇澳的清軍及鄉勇曾在這座山丘構築工事，架設火砲，以防範法艦入侵蘇澳。1889(光緒15) 年清軍鑑於軍事要塞的考量，正式在山頂構築砲台陣地和營房，以強化蘇澳的防禦，「砲台山」之名即由此而來。現在砲台只留下台基殘蹟，而於清代鑄造的古砲也因風化斑駁腐蝕而移置於蘇澳鎮公所展覽室，目前放置於基台上的兩座大砲乃由在地熱心士紳集資仿型而成。
