English: Research indicates that by the first half of the 17th century, approxiamtely 3.5 million pieces of Chinese porcelain had been transported to Amsterdam through the shipping network of the Dutch East India Company. Subsequently, these items were resold from Amsterdam to various destinations worldwide. Porcelains, similar in style to the two pieces displayed in this exhibition, frequently appear in Dutch still life painting from the 17th century. Their presence in the painting ont only reflects their actual dissemiantion routes but also provides insights into their usage and circulation in foreign lands. |
