中文：白沙屯媽祖徒步北港進香是台灣宗教界的一大盛事，在進香前的三天會舉行放頭旗儀式，象徵著向四方昭告白沙屯媽祖進香已經要開始了，頭旗也會先固定在廟前的龍柱上，頭旗更是整個進香的路上非常重要的法器，有著除煞、開路的性質。
English: Baishatun Mazu's pilgrimage on foot to Beigang is a major event in Taiwan's religious circles. Three days before the incense ceremony, a flag-laying ceremony will be held, which symbolizes informing the world that the Baishatun Mazu pilgrimage is about to begin. The headflag will also be fixed first. On the dragon pillar in front of the temple, the flag is a very important instrument on the way to incense. It has the properties of removing evil spirits and opening the way.
