中文（臺灣）：高雄縣濱海平原的考古遺址不但證實曾住有平埔族，且也有許多疑似平埔族的地名，再搭配《熱蘭遮城日誌》所載，更證實高雄許多平埔族群活動遺跡。地名通常指涉 個地方的生態景觀及人文現象，可是研究者常陷於漢人沙文主義，而望文生義，將臺灣的地名逕行解讀為漢人的地名，誤判背後所隱藏的族群關係。
作者逐一論述27個高雄地名，藉由考究搭配文獻史料，探討其名稱係從番社名亦或是由番民語而來。由番社名而來的地名例如：打狗地名之由來，在《熱蘭遮城日誌》、「永曆十八年1664臺灣軍備圖」所示，左營社及內圍社疑似為打狗仔番的部落，因而得名。又美濃地名由來之「瀰濃」應是音譯於南鄒系卡那卡那富社群或武洛社的地名。其餘如左營、鳳山、彌陀、觀音山等皆是。 因番民語而來者如阿公店之地名，係由平埔原住民的「甚產船仔花之地」的「竿蓁林」唸成（Agongton）「阿公棟」而來，因此阿公店或竿蓁林係因當地的植物而得名。同樣來自番民語的尚有岡山後紅、旗山蕃薯寮。 |
