English: The headstone of Private Charles Godfrey Bean who died on the 14th January 1916 aged 23 years. Charles was a member of the 5th battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment which he joined in Hull. His army number was 1706. He was the son of Mr and Mrs R. G. Beane, of Winspers Farm, Northrepps, Norfolk. He had died of his wounds in Lewisham Hospital. His name is also on the village war memorial, also in Northrepps Church yard. The Inscription on the Headstone reads: For God King and Country. In ever loving memory of our dear son CHARLES GODFREY BEANE who died from wounds received in France January 14th 1916 aged 23 years. We are more than conquerors. Through him that loved us. I am persuaded. That neither death nor things to come shall be able to separate us from the love of god. Which is in christ Jesus our lord.
