Description
English: Borrow Road street sign, Oulton Broad The road is named after George Henry Borrow (1803 – 1881) an English writer of novels and of travel based on personal experiences in Europe. His travels gave him a close affinity with the Romani people of Europe, who figure strongly in his work. His best-known book is 'The Romany Rye' He lived at Oulton Broad for many years and wrote most of his books there. A hotel, named George Borrow, commonly called 'The George' (formerly the Railway Hotel) in Bridge Road was also named after him but closed down a number of years ago and is now offices and a pharmacy.
