Botanical name: Amaranthus spinosus Common name: Prickly Amaranth Tamil name: Mullukkeerai ‘thorny pot-herb’ This is used as antidote for snake-poison; As per researches this pot-herb has 18 kinds of amino acids ; Root decoction is used for treatment of gonorrhea ; Also used for fever, bronchitis and urinary tract inflammation; Bruised leaves are used for eczema.
